Author Interview: DARLENE PANZERA
So excited to welcome a very special guest to my blog today. Meet Darlene!
Darlene Panzera writes sweet, fun-loving romance and is the winner of the "Make Your Dreams Come True Contest" sponsored by Avon Books, which led her novella, THE BET, to be published with Debbie Macomber's FAMILY AFFAIR. The full length novel, re-titled, BET YOU'LL MARRY ME, released December 2012 and her upcoming series, THE CUPCAKE DIARIES, releases May 2013 with subtitles: Sweet on You, Recipe for Love, and Taste of Romance.
"I love writing stories that help inspire people to laugh, value relationships, and pursue their dreams."
Born and raised in New Jersey, Darlene is now a resident of the Pacific Northwest where she lives with her husband and three children. When not writing she enjoys spending time with her family and her two horses, and loves camping, hiking, photography, and lazy days at the lake.
She likes to inspire people to laugh? I love her already! Let's get to the questions.
In one sentence (or so), tell everyone what your book is about.
Three women follow their dream to open a cupcake shop in Astoria, Oregon and find true love!
Without spoilers, can you describe your favorite scene in the book?
I have so many favorite scenes throughout each of the three books I think it's impossible to choose. But I really had fun with the humorous scene in the opening of book 2 in the series, THE CUPCAKE DIARIES: Recipe for Love, where Mike the Magician tries to saw Rachel in half. As they banter back and forth she reveals she is single and available but has a very real fear of saw blades.
What? I didn’t know your books were so violent! Your website says your books are “sweet, fun-loving romance”. What can readers expect from a Darlene Panzera book?
My books are sweet, wholesome books similar to Debbie Macomber's in that they take place in a small town, focus on the importance of relationships and core values. My books are also humorous with lots of fun banter back and forth between the characters (especially the hero and heroine) and they often find themselves in comical situations.
These covers look good enough to eat! Where do I start? Do they need to be read in order?
You do not need to read THE CUPCAKE DIARIES in order because each book focuses on one of the three women, but I would recommend starting with the first book where Andi, Rachel, and Kim first come up with the idea of opening a cupcake shop together. Each book reveals more and more back story and shows the growth of the characters and the shop and what they've done to push forward toward their dream. So you don't need to read them in order, but it would be better.
What’s your favorite sweet or salty treat?
Lately my favorite treat is sweet & salty. I have a Payday bar made with nougat and peanuts sitting on my desk but I will not allow myself to eat it until I finish a significant portion of my book. This helps keep me motivated to write!
Woman after my own heart. Is there anything better than a chocolate covered pretzel? 8-O What is your favorite movie? Why?
I have lots of favorite movies: Pretty Woman, Notting Hill, Pride and Prejudice, as well as The Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Avatar. I love epic romance, adventure, and comedy all rolled into one.
Mmm. Now I’m thinking of Viggo Mortenson. …What were we talking about? Oh, right. What author has inspired you the most in your career?
Debbie Macomber has inspired me the most because much of our personal backgrounds and what we had to do to break into publishing is very similar. She had challenges and pressed on toward her goal and this gave me hope that I could do the same. Then I won the Debbie Macomber/Avon Books "Make Your Dreams Come True" contest which allowed me to publish my novella, THE BET with Debbie's FAMILY AFFAIR. Now I will be forever grateful to Debbie and Avon Books for launching my career.
What can readers expect to see from you next?
I am in the midst of writing a special Christmas edition to THE CUPCAKE DIARIES which is due to release November 26th 2013 from Avon Impulse. In this novella Andi, Rachel, and Kim try to stop the modern-day Grinch seeking to sabotage Christmas (and their love lives!) at Creative Cupcakes.
Thank you so much for stopping by, Darlene!
Now go add Darlene's books to your Goodreads lists, and shopping carts, and track her down online and say "hello" like a good little stalker!
