Sticker Haul, a Planner Spread, and Romanticizing Your Life
Watch or read. This blog is based on a YouTube video on the same topic.
There are a lot of big shifts going on in the world right now. Sometimes, the most radical act is to choose joy.
In the video accompanying this blog, I share a sticker haul and my planner spread for the week, but more than just stickers on paper, itās the why behind our creative rituals that matter most. Romanticizing your life is about making everyday tasks more satisfying and enjoyable.
Stickers bring me a whole lot of pleasure. I have a closet full of Happy Planner sticker books Iām still working through (let me know in the comments belowš if you want to see a video on my method for using up old stickers in a satisfying way), organizers packed with them, and envelopes stuffed with vinyl stickers. And yet, I canāt seem to have enough.
Some people hang paintings on their walls. I keep stickers in my planner, my journal, and storage books. I flip through them for inspiration or that little brain-tickle of satisfaction I feel whenever I look at these tiny pieces of art. Each one has the power to make a blank page more inviting. These patterns, artwork, and adorable critters bring joy to my lifeāand, like it says in my bioā we should all do more of what makes us happy.
What is āRomanticizing Your Life?ā
Romanticizing your one beautiful, precious life doesnāt have to mean luxurious private jets, Chanel bags, and crystal stemwareāthough it certainly can! What matters most to me, is helping us as a community stoke the flames of our own inner joy. Top keep those home fires burning, and make the simplest moments more beautiful.
That might look like the final sprinkle of hemp seeds on my oatmeal. Or in the way I plate my sandwich, or serve my ketchup in a ramekin. Itās the twinkle lights I turn on in the morning and the fuzzy blanket I cover up with while watching the snow fall out the window.
Stickers, journaling, and planning are just a few examples of ways I cozy into my day and make each moment feel more special. I mean, if you have to write a synopsis, you might as well jot down your progress on a cute sticker. š
Romanticizing the Everyday
Look around your favorite spaces. How can you make them feel more inviting? More joyful? More you? When I inherited my husbandās office, the walls were dark evergreen. I love the color green, but for whatever reason, simply walking into that room felt heavy. So, we painted the room soft peachy-pink and gentle elephant gray. The difference was astounding. By the time I put some feminine touches in there (an LED birch tree and a few pieces of art), I felt at home.
If youāve ever made over a space in your home, you know what Iām talking about! Even a new shower curtain and radically shift the feeling of a blah bathroom.
Romanticizing your life doesnāt require new supplies or a total overhaul. Itās very likely that youāve already surrounded yourself with items and supplies that bring you joy. All you have to do now is lean into it.
A Little Shopping Never Hurts
That said, something new you will cherish and use for years can make it easier to build a ritual you actually stick with. And since I know youāre curious about what I keep on my desk or in my cabinet drawers, Iāll share a few of my favorite things, complete with links, below. (Some links are affiliate links, and I earn commissions.)
Cloth napkins. Years ago, we started using cloth napkins for our meals. We still keep a stash of paper napkins for parties, but the amount of waste weāve reduced with this one simple switch is impressive.
A teabag coaster. I love to drink hot tea on cold evenings, but 5-7 minutes is too long to wait at the counter when I have a show to watch and a blanket waiting for me on the couch. I use a teabag coaster to hold the spent bag.
A photo printer. This little guy has made my life so much easierāthe app is simple to use and you can collage multiple photos or just print one. Snap a photo of your tarot card spread, your family, or your new manicure and add it to your journaling. Genius.
Designer candles. A good friend bought me a Jo Malone candle for Christmas one year, and I absolutely adored it. Since then, Iāve purchased a few more. I also own three of their perfumes. They make for beautiful giftsāfor someone you love, or for you.
These small, intentional ways of making our lives special tend to add up. You might not be gliding through your house wearing a maribou-lined robe and kitten heels, but you can move through life feeling that way. Often, my option for comfort is a pair of Mukluks and a Lululemon hoodie, so by all meansāyou do you.
In short: you get to decide what is romantic to youāand how to spoil yourself in small ways.
