It’s Writing Season · Issue 007 · Fall 2026
Fall 2026 Issue of Lemmon Society Magazine
From the Editor

Dear Writer,
I’m not sure I have ever been more ready to let go of summer than I am this year. 🍂
Here in the Midwest, it was particularly wet (as in Noah-go-build-an-ark) and humid (if it feels like a rainforest, then I also expect to have monkeys). The chilly snap in the air and the first sign of changing leaves has made me absolutely giddy.
Whether you are wishing summer lasted forever, or are looking forward to the holiday season, I want to talk about what we can look forward to in these shorter, darker days. In particular: nesting
As we embark upon nesting season—or hibernation season—let’s talk about who we are, where we’ve been, and who we are becoming.
After all, the writer is more important than the writing.
I’ll never stop advocating for the health and wellness of my fellow creatives. Burnout is real and can be devastating, so we must continue to nurture ourselves even while hitting deadlines.
Pay close attention to our tarot/oracle reading this season. The cards are pointing out what might live inside us that we haven’t yet acknowledged. Where do you feel unworthy? Undeserving? Have you been busy and need a slower pace? When is the last time you meditated or journaled?
There are also opportunities to journal this month and I’ve given you questions to sit with as well. If you feel moved to comment, be sure to leave one in the open comment box below. I’d love to hear from you.
Grab your latest project. Light a candle. Settle in.
It’s writing season!

A Cozy Tarot Reading for Writers
What’s in the cards for you this season?
Keep reading to find out…
I employed two decks for this seasonal reading.
The first is the Sugar Skull Tarot (affiliate) deck that is my tried and true.
The second is the Femme Folk Oracle (affiliate) deck that is so moody and beautiful.
Here’s what came through for this reading. We will start at the upper left and move right. Take a breath. Here we go…
What energies are in the air for writers this season?
Listen below for my take on these cards.

It’s Writing Season
An Invitation
Rather than offer up an article, Lemmon Society Magazine is more of an experience. It isn’t meant to be passively observed, so please, grab a journal and prepare to dive in. I’ve also provided a visual experience with curated photos to set the tone. These beautiful images are from Haute Stock—you can read more about them on this blog.
TABLE OF CONTENTS:
1\ Who is your writer self?
2\ Journal prompts
3\ Honoring your past
4\ Visuals: Feather Your Writing Nest
5\ An invitation
6\ Leave a comment, answer the questions
1\ Who is your writer self?
When you picture your writer self, who is she?
Does she have a teaching soul and love to nurture other authors?
Is she a hardcover queen who talks to rooms full of eager readers?
Does she step onto a red carpet to talk about her latest book on film?
Or is she quietly writing away in a secluded space, only emerging when I pleases her?
This is the season to ask, and answer.
You get to decide who you are—and you are under no obligation to be the writer you were five minutes ago.
2\ Journal Prompts
What qualities does my dream writer self embody?
What does she wear when she writes?
How does she present herself to the world—online or at a signing?
3\ Honoring your past
Think back a few years, to the version of you who would have died if she saw what incredible things you’ve accomplished recently. What you have managed was only in her wildest dreams—if it was there at all! You’ve also done things she never considered. That past version of you might have been more fearful and less experienced, but damn, was she brave.
Have you thanked her yet for taking the leap? For stepping outside of her comfort zone? What have you learned from her—what lessons can you carry forward as you step into uncertainty yourself?
As we snuggle in and reflect this season on what we want to become, be sure and honor who you are right now, and where you’ve been.
It’s all about the journey, my friend.
I can’t wait to hear your ah-ha moments that happen this season. (Make sure you’re subscribed to my writer’s newsletter so that we can keep in touch.)
4\ Visuals: Feather Your Writing Nest
5\ An Invitation
What we’re doing inside the membership…
Join us every Wednesday in October for a virtual Write-In Wednesday. I’m messaging members on the group text, we’re setting our word count or page goals, and then we are getting about the business of writing.
In November, we’re gathering our darlings (instead of killing them), which means we are honoring our favorite past characters and lines and ideas.
For December, we’re focusing on the writing cave, where we rest, dream, and create—all in an easy, flowy way. Never allowing the hectic holidays to keep us from honoring ourselves.
Learn more about The Society here, or click to join us below.
Talk to you next Wednesday, members.

You're too busy to give your next book idea the space to grow. Writing groups have left you feeling drained by the complaints and industry doom, and you're still looking for advice you can trust. I see you. There's a difference between wanting to write a book and becoming the woman who does. Every Wednesday, we write together in a sunny, negativity-free space, with monthly card pulls and a live gathering where you can ask me anything. Writing is supposed to be fun, and inside TLS, it is. 🍋
6\ A Little Magic | by Jessica Lemmon
Kismet.
Serendipity.
Chance meetings.
Have you looked for magic lately? Either in the flowers that bloom or the trees that ready for their winter sleep?
Have you had a chance encounter with a person or a character or a stranger that seemed significant?
Have you quieted long enough to soak in what is around you? To notice, and then notice what you’re noticing?
The beauty of this season isn’t just the slower pace, but what you do with it. How you honor it.
And it doesn’t have to be with candles lit while wearing slipper socks.
I recently had the most serendipitous day and it happened at a festival and then later watching football and then continued at a wine bar.
Follow the breadcrumbs, the winks from God or the Universe.
Stay open, be aware.
Step into the next thing and then the next…
There’s nothing wrong with a little magic.
