Dear Reader,
The idea of coming home to myself really settled into my soul in recent years. Three paths converged at once for me: menopause, creative burnout, and turning 50.
At half a century years of age, I have written as many books (50), dipped my toes into course creation, founded a membership and a magazine, and continued to develop my woo-ness. Which brings me to an exciting development that is debuting in this issue.
We are doing our first ever tarot reading specifically for Lemmon Society magazine!
As writers and creatives, coming home to ourselves can take on a lot of different meanings depending on where you are in your life. So, as I was writing this editorial letter, I set the intention to pull cards based on our theme. I asked the energies swirling around us:
What do we need to know about coming home to ourselves?
Just wait until you see the cards that came up…
The most important part of creation isn’t the plot or the project or even the prose. My love, it’s you.
You are the most important part of the writing. We are not called upon to suffer for our art. To claw and compete and live in lack. We are called to the highest form of expression there is: Creation.
While you are typing away on your novel, you are receiving messages from an ethereal realm, be it your subconscious, your muse, or your higher power.
Know this: putting images or words to paper (or screen) is an act of radical self-care and nothing short of magic. (As you will see in this month’s tarot reading.)
Every month inside the Lemmon Society, we explore what it means to grow as creatives. I host a live community Zoom call and welcome questions. I record audio pep talks meant to encourage and inform. And I offer personal and career insight I don’t share anywhere else.
It’s about taking care of the whole YOU, not just the part of you that cranks out words.

As you sit with the idea of going on the journey mentioned in the tarot card reading, how do you feel? Adventurous? Frightened? Excited? A combination of all of them?
Whenever we leave the safety of what we know, we can experience fear alongside of it. But, as the cards said, if you walk this path with your eyes open, and set boundaries that are meaningful to you, you can trust wherever you’ll end up.

A Drink with the Queen of Cups | by Jessica Lemmon
I sat and breathed and asked for guidance
The Queen of Cups appeared
Use your intuition, she persuaded
Use your femininity
I nodded at the directive and then
Accepted a cup from her hand
“Drink,” she instructed, “and know the truth.”
And so that is what I did
Imbued with excitement, awe, and joy
I knew what I had to do
Tell every creative who knew my name
How to make their dreams come true
