Cozy Journaling Sesh: How I Reset My Energy and Let the Words Flow

If you prefer watching instead of reading, the full video is live on my YouTube channel. Click here.

Some mornings, meditation just doesn’t cut it.

I know it works wonders for a lot of people, but when my mind is busy or my emotions feel tangled, I need to write. Maybe it’s because I’m a writer. Holding a pen allows me to see the words on the page, and helps me to understand what’s happening on the inside.

On this morning, I sat down with my journal. Not to plan my day or map out a to-do list. To listen to that still, quiet voice inside.

I started with a simple statement:

I would love a cozy writing day.

The kind of day where the words flow with ease. Where inspiration doesn’t feel far away but like it’s sitting right beside me, sipping hot chocolate, and watching the magic happen. Nothing is better than writing away on a book and having no idea where the time has gone. That is the flow state.

Once I knew what I wanted, I allowed myself to imagine the feeling of having it.

What does it feel like to have:

  1. An easy writing day?

  2. Two new members inside the Lemmon Society?

  3. Two chapters, completed?

More importantly, who would I have to be to have those things?

Someone who is:

  • confident

  • trusting, faithful

  • locked in, disciplined

  • loving, and open to receive

Once I was focused on who I needed to be, I stopped thinking about what I needed to do. And that is the secret sauce, my friend.

Yes, your to-do list matters, but only from the perspective of who you would be when you have what you want. If my to-do list has “clear my inbox” on it, but I would love to write two chapters, then guess what? That inbox task is bumped to a time when I’m not at peak writing hours.

That’s because who you are being while you move through your day matters more than your to-do list.

Being a leader of a membership is a different identity than solely being an author. I’m not just writing and publishing any longer. I am creating a space where readers and writers can connect and feel supported.

Next, I shifted into gratitude.

Before anything had even happened that day, I said thank you. Thank you to God (or Source, or the Universe, whatever language feels right for you).

Thank you for two new Lemmon Society members I know are finding their way to me.

Thank you for the chance to serve them, support their creativity, and share what I love.

I also said thank you for the next two chapters in my serialization, Bad News Bad Boy.

Read Bad News Bad Boy inside The Lemmon Society today.

To be honest, writing has felt sticky lately. I love the story, but serializing a book when it’s not fully written is a new and unknown experience. I’ve already shared chapters one and two with The Lemmon Society, so the worry came: What if I don’t know what comes next?

This is where trust comes in.

Trust in myself.

Trust in my intuition.

Trust that the next scene will reveal itself when I show up at my laptop.

I get to ground myself in the knowledge that I have 48 books under my belt, and I know how to do this.

I get to remind myself that writing doesn’t have to be hard, because I can let it be easy. I don’t need to grip or control or race the clock.

I can let inspiration meet me where I am.

When we stop trying to control things outside of us and instead align with what we would love, everything is easier.

So if you’re feeling overwhelmed, behind, or like your mental to-do list is getting louder by the minute, try this simple practice:

Take a breath.

Sit down with your journal.

Ask, What would I love?

See what comes up for you. And then, ask the most important question of all:

Who do I need to be to have what I would love?

That’s where the clarity lives.
