Feminine Energy, Chardonnay, and the Truth About Joyful Productivity

Work. Wine. Repeat.

Not EVERY day, but on this day, for whatever reason, I sipped on a glass of Chardonnay at 2:30 pm.

It’s easy to get caught in the web of nonstop working, especially as a creative entrepreneur. There’s always more to do. More emails. More launches. More content. More, more, more.

But I’ve been reminding myself lately that part of my job—and honestly, part of my soul’s purpose on this planet—is to enjoy my life. To really live it. And to show you how to enjoy yours, too.

Does that mean afternoon wine? Maybe. But it’s less about what’s in my glass and more about what’s in my heart.

Why Slowing Down Is Hard (But is KEY for Work-Life Balance)

In the world of online business, slowing down can feel rebellious. And I love a rebel moment. The moment I tell myself “no” my brain immediately rebuts with “oh, yeah?” 🤨

Joy is part of the job description.

Most of us have been taught that to be successful, we gotta hustle. Rest is for losers! Or it becomes something we have to earn. Fun becomes the reward after your to-do list is complete. And, let’s face it: who the hell has a completed to-do list?!

So, here’s what I’ve learned (and re-learned): Joy is part of the job description. And more than that, joyful productivity can be a superpower. It’s the heartbeat of any creative business.

The Dance of Feminine and Masculine Energy

Let’s talk energetics for a sec. I tend to run toward the masculine side of energetics like structure, strategy, and checking things off of lists. Not only do I love to do it, I’m really freaking good at it. But when I live there too long, my head starts spinning, my eyes cross…it’s my body telling me it’s time to shift.

Do I listen? Not always! 😬

But when I am aware that I am a human DOING instead of a human. BEING, then I can remind myself to shift into the feminine. Feminine energetics is being in flow, having faith. There is a softness and surrender in the co-creation of what’s being made. It’s less “I have to do this or it won’t get done” and more “rest, relax, and let the Universe do its part.”

The feminine space is where we are reminded that we don’t have to earn our rest, and we are worthy just as we are.

Because resting is an essential part of the process.

I mean, HELLO. I created a course called Write for FUN. My website motto is Read for FUN. So I found myself asking: where the heck is my fun?

It’s right here. In this moment. However I choose to have it.

I’m still unlearning the belief that taking a break makes me lazy. Or that if I’m not pushing, I’m falling behind.

The truth? There is no creativity without receiving. God made the earth and heavens in 7 days, and on day 7 God rested. So why didn’t the scripture say that God made the earth and heavens in 6 days?

Because resting is an essential part of the process.

How I Make Space for Fun in My Life

  • Playing Hay Day with coffee in the morning (if you’re playing this game too, SEND MILK! I’m always out.)

  • Decorative planning with stickers and Tombow markers. It makes me feel more creative.

  • Taking a bubble bath and watching a reality TV show. (Real Housewives of Miami, Traitors, Love Hotel…)

  • Taking a walk alone and using all my senses to take in the world around me. What do I see? What does the ground feel like beneath my shoes? What do I hear?

  • Sticker bombing! An art practice that is beyond relaxing.

These moments away from my laptop actually help keep me connected to creativity and joy.

Pause for Joy

What’s your version of mid-afternoon Chardonnay?

Is it a bubbly bath before dinner? An awareness walk? Reading a steamy romance novel in the middle of the day? 😉

Whatever it is, I hope you claim it. We weren’t made to hustle 24/7. We were meant to enjoy our lives, have fun, and bring our gifts to the world.

xo,
Jessica 🍋
